Mon 16 Sep 24 Cloudy, warm. Wandered around downtown Kielce today. Got a nice haircut. Sightseeing. Grocery shopping. I’m checking out the insane storm that’s hovering over Czechia and Austria. Looks like I may drive right through it tomorrow on my way to Bezina, Czechia, tomorrow.

Drive from Bialystok to Kielce in Poland
Sunday 15 September 2024 Superb roads. 400 kms today – easy. North of Warsaw, flat with mega farms of grains interspersed with some really beautiful forests. The weather is so warm that forests can not make up their mind whether to go into autumn colours, so there are random patches of yellows, oranges, and reds,Continue reading “Drive from Bialystok to Kielce in Poland”
Random meeting in Poland
15 Sep 24 After driving 400 kilometres today on great roads in perfect conditions and checking in to my lovely Airbnb apartment, I decided to walk 700 metres to a local grocery store (lovely staff by the way!). Playing ball in the street, a father and son. He’s American from Philly! The last person heContinue reading “Random meeting in Poland”

Bialystok walk in the “tourist trap” centre
There are NO signs or menus in English. Only Polish, Russian and Lithuanian. Hardly anyone speaks English. They’re an arrogant lot, really. Their driving is atrocious. Not open to chatting, except a couple visiting on motorbikes – they were nice. Walk 2 blocks outside the Tourist Trap area, and the place looks like a shitContinue reading “Bialystok walk in the “tourist trap” centre”

Bialystok Poland
Sat 14Sep24 I chose this city purely as a 300 km drive from Vilnius, Lithuania, having no idea of its history or what it might offer. The rain has stopped, and after a foggy start, I ventured into the city. For a start, it has a palace, 350 years old, which used to be knownContinue reading “Bialystok Poland”

Fried onions, courgette in olive oil, and Balkan chevap sausages for dinner after an exhausting drive.
Białystok. Poland. Airbnb. 9th floor. 2 nights
13Sep24 Today’s drive was exhausting. 2.5 hours of fog and driving rain. The forests and farmlands of southern Lithuania and northern Poland are spectacular even in the fog. The ten storey Airbnb is a 60 year old building that’s been clad in steel sheeting. The public areas are very old. The elevator is something elseContinue reading “Białystok. Poland.
