Insanity ruled today

Tuesday 17 September 2024

What should have been a straightforward, 360 kilometre, easy drive on great roads, turned into a battle of wits, logistics, emergency warnings, chatting with Polish and Czechia Police and many locals.

It took 9 hours and just on 500 kilometres to get to my Airbnb in the beautiful forest outside Brno in Czechia.

I’ve seen flood and storm damage in a lot of countries, but this was “next level” destruction.

Major high speed motorways covered in metres of gravel and metres of water 3 days after the rain stopped. Avalanches. Wide open plains, farmland, metres deep in water. I looked over one high bridge and saw dozens of homes piled up on each in the river.

Cars buried in mud up to their windows. Cars in the middle of fields, abandoned. No idea if the owners are safe.  Sad.
