UPDATE 5PM – Update. An electric scooter on charge exploded. Destroyed 4 apartments and severely smoke damaged 20 apartments and public areas…
Overcast, light rain at times.
I’d just returned from a driving tour of old Vilnius- it’s spectacular and worth a visit.
A very loud bang and lots of heavy black smoke. I thought I’d see what had happened, without getting too close.
An apartment fire. Cause unknown.
Caveat for my comments. I was the Officer in Charge of Airfield Fire Fighting and Rescue at 3 major Royal Australian Air Force bases. I was not a Fire Fighter but did every course I could enrol in to better understand the job at hand.
This was a pathetic response. Slow, disorganised, poorly trained, coordinated and executed.
Major Fuck Up. They didn’t bother evacuating the entire building. The back half of the building remained full of people!
One always assumes that some fucking retard has something they shouldn’t have in their apartment like ammunition, large drums of petrol, fertiliser or heaven forbid, both of those items in the same place….and that the building could be levelled by an unexpected explosion.
But no…they failed to evacuate the entire building.
A single ambulance arrived 30 minutes after the first victims had run pit other buiolding with minor burns and smoke inhalation injuries. These poor buggers, including kids, were sitting on the grass being looked after by bystanders. Pathetic and unprofessional.
The Police… no comment. Useless. No proper crowd control. Their control lines of tape were way too close to the building in the event of an explosion. Again, it was very unprofessional.
I’ve watched my guys get into their breathing apparatus and into a building… and they were fast. These fire fighters appeared to have never put BA on in their life they were so slow. Pathetic.

There seemed to be no one in charge. Bit of a free for all.
More luck than good management.
