A foggy start to the drive to Vilnius. Lovely forests and extensive farmland.
Many people commute over 60 kms each way to Riga to work from Bauska, spending 90 minutes on a bus each way. Apartments in Soviet era blocks are very cheap to rent here.
The people look depressed and miserable. Luckily, I found a couple with great English at a service station who explained all this to me.
Latvia is the poorest of the Baltic states.
