In September I will drive through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on my way to Poland and Austria.

It’s a little disheartening to read that the Civil Defence authorities in each of these countries are all working on mass evacuation plans in case Mr Putin, Esq, decides that he wants these former parts of the USSR, back in the fold. Lithuania in particular is wedged between Belarus and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, that faces the Baltic Sea.

I first learned that Russia had an exclave when I was driving in this area in 2019, and Google Maps warned me I’d need a bloody visa to continue! The things you learn!

Needless to say that when I’m in Finland, I’ll be watching the news very carefully before booking the car ferry between Helsinki and Tallinn.

The joys of international travel when there are lunatics in charge…
