I’ve lost count of the number and location of Cafes in every state in Australia that have taken my hard earned graft over the years. Some, in country towns, are just dinosaurs with old and dry 2 day old white bread smashed with the cheapest margarine you can buy, sausages made of road kill and gravel, reject eggs, and tomatoes well past their use by date and coffee that’s tastes like, well, a weak tea. Thankfully these rotten old fashioned shit boxes are becoming less common nowadays as people demand more and better for their money.
Quite apart from the flat white, Latte Aussie style and so on in the coffee realm, the competition really heats up when you order an “Eggs Bennie”. Today, and for the third time at this particular Cafe, I enjoyed a superb “Eggs Bennie” with sourdough bread and salmon. Sitting in the warm morning winter sun, devouring this deliciousness, I nearly fell asleep, face down in the home made Hollandaise sauce it was THAT GOOD!
