Luxury cars are generally much cheaper in Scotland than London. I found this beautiful S class at Edinburgh Mercedes-Benz and decided to buy it for my 2018-2019 European journey. What a shit show. The female General Manager decided that this Australian was a scammer and refused payment because she was concerned about money laundering. I am a former senior investigator with the Australian Taxation Office, so I know a little bit about international money transfers. In any case, it’s the UK government’s problem, not hers. Despite me saying the money will come from Australia’s largest bank and go into the largest bank in Scotland, she remained unconvinced. Outrageous! So I went over her head to the Hesd Office of the Mercedes-Benz Group and had her baseless objections overruled. This was a great car. A long wheel base S class. It was a joy to drive through 14 countries. I managed to score the S400GMW number plates S400 for the car, and GMW are my initials. To rent, this car would have been close to AUD$400 a DAY with European insurance. When I finally sold it and added up the expenses and loss on sale… AUD $38 a day. Bargain.
